Stone Dominoes Ladies 5 – Stoke Town 1
The dominoes faced lower league Stoke Town on Sunday, the dominoes are sat top of the league by goal difference so this was a perfect match to get the Dominoes ahead on points of rivals Shrewsbury who weren’t playing this week.
Stone scored first with Mollie Prime calmly slotting home her first of the game, followed by Vikki Garner with a header on the back post after a Kerry McCourt corner. This was Garner’s 17th league goal in 15 games. Stoke pulled one back before the end of the half but the first half was cut short due to Stones Captain Lauren Ward injuring her knee.
During half time Stone’s manager needed harsh words to get players playing up to the standard expected. The second half saw the Dominoes dominate much of the possession, the defence were heavily involved in keeping the ball and playing it round, making the Stoke Town attackers frustrated and working hard off the ball. Nat Price scored Stone’s 4th of the game when a Holly Fowell corner floated into the box, Stoke Town defender headed back to the keeper but Nat Price flicked the ball over her hands to make it 3-1. Soon after central midfielder Jules Kendrick spotted the keeper was off her line, from just inside the attacking half she controlled the ball and with pinpoint accuracy floated the ball over the keepers head. Mollie Prime rounded the scoring up with her 30th league goal of the season keeping her as the top goal scorer in the league.
This keeps Stone at the top of the County Women’s league with only 5 league fixtures to go. Stone travel to 2nd place Shrewsbury on Sunday in the League Cup semi-final, which will be a massive game for the club.
