This vision of a gas power station at Meaford took a step closer to reality when Meaford Energy Ltd’s application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) was accepted for examination by the Planning Inspectorate in mid-May. The Planning Inspectorate is the government body responsible for receiving and examining DCO Applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects such as this.
The application will now progress to the pre-examination stage. This will take approximately three months and will then be followed by the Planning Inspectorate’s formal examination.
The power station represents a £300m investment in the local economy and will provide 30 highly skilled permanent local jobs, Meaford Energy Ltd predict. If the DCO is granted, construction could begin in late 2017 with the power station in full operation by 2020.
