Meet Stone’s New Town Mayor – Councillor Mike Williamson

Councillor Mike Williamson – Stone’s New Town Mayor

Mike was born in 1946 in Burslem, living there for the first 4 years of his life in a 2 up 2 down terraced house which his parents shared with an auntie and uncle. Eventually his parents bought a semi in Sneyd Green where he lived until he was 21.

“I went to primary school in Burslem and after passing the 11 plus studied at Hanley High School. It was there that I discovered interests in reading, music of all kinds, Science and a life-long liking of custard( a result of School Dinners). I finished my education by studying Chemistry at the University of Hull, achieving an Honours Degree in 1968.
On leaving university I married Valerie, and we lived in Mossley for the next 3 years working in the textile trade. We moved to Stone in 1971 when I obtained a management position at the Michelin. We had 2 children, Mark and Claire, who both went to our local schools in Walton. To help raise funds for both schools we became involved in their P.T.A’S. I managed to Chair the Middle School P.T.A. and eventually became a Governor at Manor Hill.
Unfortunately I was widowed in 2000, Valerie passing away from Renal Cancer.
I first became a Councillor in 2003 and am now serving in my 9th year. I have also served 4 years as a Stafford Borough Councillor sitting on many committees including the Planning Committee.
I am looking forward very to my year as Stone Town Mayor, knowing that it is a great honour to serve the Town in this role. As well as my 4 main Charities – Stone First Responders, Guide Dogs for the Blind, S.T.I.N.G. and Stone Stroke Club – my Consort, Cllr. Margaret Goodall, and I are looking forward also to support the many other Charities and Organisations in the Town and wish to do as much as we can to raise their profiles as well. ”

Mike’s deputy will be Jim Davies – a safe pair of hands, having already been a consort for his wife, Lin Davies who was Mayor in 2003.
