Village farewell to Cyril

Cyril Whitehouse (age 96) is leaving Great Bridgeford to live near his daughter Jill in Sheffield.

Cyril was born and bred in Great Bridgeford and was instrumental with his wife Beryl in starting up the Great Bridgeford Hall and has worked tirelessly for the local community all his life. He started the Gardeners Guild and is a wonderful gardener.

It was an indication of how high a regard he was held in by the amount of people who turned out on Sunday 19th April to a lovely tea party in his honour.

The Village Hall Committee gave Cyril an alarm clock as he said it would remind him of Great Bridgeford every morning. He was also given vouchers for the theatre. The Gardening Guild also gave him vouchers and the Parish Council planted a tree in his honour in Great Bridgeford Village Hall’s garden.

We all wish Cyril good luck in his new home and look forward to seeing him on one of the many visits I’m sure he will make back to Bridgeford.
