Eccleshall RUFC preseason training starts on Tuesday July 7th with the Baden Hall based club determined to build on last season’s successes. A season that saw them win the Trentham 10s, reach the semi-final of the Staffordshire Intermediate Cup and finish third in Midlands 3 WN.
Last season Eccleshall RUFC appointed Steven Dolphin as Club Coach and as hoped he and his coaching team were able to push the playing side to new heights with Eccleshall 1XV achieving their highest ever league position.
This season Eccleshall hope to go at least one if not two places better and achieve promotion to Midlands 2. With Nick Hulse, captain for the last 3 seasons, stepping down the forthcoming season sees Eccleshall’s 1XV being led by a new captain the charismatic Jimmy Dodkins. Jimmy has Eccleshall in his blood having lived in the town all his life and is keen for the club to take that next step. Eccleshall 2Xv also have a new captain in Liam Clements, who is a product of our successful junior section.
While a successful season for Eccleshall’s 1 XV & 2XV is something all at Eccleshall are looking forward to, having recently received a £500 grant from the RFU to aid in their aspiration to re-establish a 3XV Eccleshall are on the lookout for new players. On many occasions last season Eccleshall 2XV had more than enough players, so the time seems right to push for a 3XV.
A big turnout is anticipated at preseason training at on Tuesday July 7th at 1900 and thereafter will be held every Tuesday and Thursday till the stat of the playing season.
Club Chairman Tim West commented
“Building on last year’s success and the raised profile of rugby brought about by a home World Cup will we hope attract new players and bring back a few old ones to help us run 3 successful sides.”
The 1XV last year were playing some of the best rugby I’ve seen Eccleshall play and I’m sure competition for places will be fierce. Our 2XV is full of players wanting to step up so these are exiting times for us. Running a 3XV will ensure that we can offer rugby for all something that is very much in line with our clubs founding principles.
With our junior section going from strength to strength we are very much looking forward to World Cup year.
