Stone Badminton Club

BadmintonStone Badminton Club has a long and happy history in Stone. Based at Alleynes Sports Centre for over 50 years, the club built and maintained an envious standard, being able to boast in its 60s and 70s heyday up to 11 teams entered into the North Staffs and Stafford and District leagues. Matches were fiercely fought, friendly rivalry abounded and successes proudly talked about. In recent times Badminton, like so many sports has had to make room for other sports which were not so accessible to everyone years ago. Although its popularity may have diminished the basic aims remain the same; enjoying competitive games and matches with the added desire to win.
The club are proud of being able to carry on the tradition of badminton in Stone, with 5 teams entered in the North Staffs league. The end of the 2014/15 season in April brought moderate success for the club with promotion for one mixed Team and respectable placings for the men’s and ladies teams. Greatly looked forward to, are the internal club tournaments which are popular for the fun they generate and the standard of play members manage to pull out of the hat at the end of a tiring season!
Recent initiatives have attracted a group of youngsters to regular beginners/improver’s classes led by a Badminton coach and supported by some of our experienced members. We look forward to their skills progressing to club standard and if their energy and enthusiasm is anything to go by this won’t be long!
Come September, racquets will be dusted off, trainers reclaimed from the back of somewhere and crumpled kit smoothed out ready for the start of a new season.
We are always happy to welcome new members to the club which meets on a Tuesday from 7pm to 10pm at Alleynes Sports Centre. Further information is available by telephoning 01785 850650 or e-mailing
