Dishes created by the chefs behind Aston Marina’s renowned Bistro have been awarded stars in the 2015 Guild of Fine Foods’ Great Taste Awards; the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink.
The Marina’s Salmon, Prawn & Dill Fishcake and Chocolate Tiffin both underwent blind taste testing under a judging panel made up of food critics, executive chefs, journalists and bigwigs in the food and drink industry. Each of the dishes was awarded a star; branding them ‘simply delicious’ and ranking among the 31% of the original 10,000 entries to gain accreditation.
This is not the first time the Marina has been recognised in what is often described as the ‘Oscars’ of fine food. Back in 2013, it won stars for its Steak & Ale Pie and Triple Chocolate Brownie; and the new accolades are testament to the creativity and hard work of the kitchen team. Director Helen Webb says:
“We pride ourselves on creating dishes that showcase the fresh, quality produce we are committed to using and to be recognised in the Great Taste Awards is a real coup. Our Head Chef has to take all the credit for his Chocolate Tiffin recipe, but the fish cake was more of a team effort, with all of us getting involved to perfect it – the chefs ended up with a perfect balance of crispy coating, lovely fish and brilliant balance of seasoning.
“To have our efforts recognised in one of the industry’s toughest awards is a real boost to the whole team at the Marina. It’s a reward for the hard work that goes in throughout the year and the fact that the team’s creativity is being judged by industry peers – who can be the harshest of critics – makes it all the more special.”
