St. Dominic’s Priory School was honoured with the presence of Lt Danielle Welch as their Guest Speaker for their Awards Ceremony in July.
Lt Danielle Welch is a former St. Dominic’s pupil and in January this year Danielle (was Danielle Hancock) became the first and last woman to become a Royal Navy Lynx Helicopter pilot. Danielle received her wings from Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, in a ceremony held at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset.
During Danielle’s speech, she reflected on the happy memories whilst at St. Dominic’s and attributed the desire to commence a career in the sky during a GCSE course which involved gliding. Danielle also enthused that due to the ethos of St. Dominic’s which runs through every aspect of the school, helped provide an integrity second to none for her University years, her various training years and ultimately the foundation to become a Royal Navy “ab-initio” Lynx Helicopter Pilot.
Excited pupils were awarded prizes with a Royal Navy handshake from Lt Welch.
Lt Welch has offered to fly the Lynx over St. Dominic’s Priory School in the coming months – who knows she may even land on our field!
