The Discovery Award Group of Stone & District U3A recently held a Strawberry Tea to raise money for “Fresh Hair” —-the salon at the Cancer Unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital which provides wigs when one loses hair due to chemotherapy. It is a charity and is run on voluntary donations. Founder member of the salon, Fiona Ford gave a brief talk about her work.
The event was held on the outskirts of Hilderstone village and the weather was kind. A pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by everyone, and just over £1,000 was raised from admission tickets, various stalls and a raffle. More than 60 people attended and made light work of scones, strawberries and cream.
The Discovery Award is a group in which individuals undertake challenges based on the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme but it is for the over 50’s with any level of physical ability. For further details contact Mary Bull by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or tel: 01889 505678. All are welcome.
