Bus services in Stone and the surrounding area have changed recently, writes Chris Almond, Bus Manager D&G Bus.
From 7th September D&G Bus have introduced a number of services to replace those formerly operated by Bennetts, and also to replace First Potteries service 23 and Arriva Midlands service 432.
The new routes are operated with financial support from Staffordshire County Council who have been under pressure to reduce spending on local bus services. As a result some services have been withdrawn, including the direct link between Stone and the County Hospital in Stafford. Some of the local services in Stone have also been reduced.
However, the changes see the introduction of new bus services 14 and X14, which will provide a new link every 30 minutes between Hanley, Stoke Station, Barlaston and Stone, with service X14 continuing every hour to Eccleshall and Stafford.
Service 14 also serves Stoke town centre, the Trentham Lakes industrial area and the Britannia Stadium.
Service X14 provides a new direct link from Barlaston to Trentham Gardens, and is also the fastest bus between Hanley and Stone with a journey time of only 39 minutes.
Timetable booklets are available from Stone Library, Stone Town Council offices, or the mobile library in Barlaston, and all of the timetables are on the internet at www.dgbus.co.uk along with fare information.
Editor’s note: Bus service changes caused controversy among Gazette readers when they were first announced some months ago – we welcome your feedback as users of this new service.
