Do you fancy a short walk in the countryside around Stone but don’t know where to turn?

Stone Ramblers have come to the rescue with an updated 2015 edition of their booklet “Walks around Stone”. It describes 13 circular routes, all setting out from Westbridge Park, starting with easy one-, two- or three-mile routes along the Trent and Mersey Canal, then venturing further afield to Downs Banks and Oulton (4 ¾ miles) (Burston (6 ½ miles), and Pirehill – Peasley Bank – Aston (7 miles).

Each route comes with an easy-to-follow sketch map and detailed stage-by-stage route description.

“It’s surprising to find how much has changed on the ground in the 8 years since our first edition,” said Gerald Gittens of Stone Ramblers.

As stated in the introduction, all walks are suitable for people of average fitness without specialist walking equipment. Some walks are suitable for people regaining fitness after illness or injury. A list of refreshment stops and phone numbers is included plus contact details for Stafford Borough’s Walking for Health programme.
Priced £3.50 (£2.50 for Ramblers’ members) “Walks around Stone” is available from Stone Library, the Outdoor Coop Stone, Aston Marina and Webberleys in Hanley.
