Borough Council to vet tattoo parlours

A new ratings scheme will be running the rule over tattoo parlours in Stafford Borough. Stafford Borough Council is visiting tattoo premises and scoring them based on a number of categories such as hygiene, record keeping and infection control. The ratings will be from 1 – meaning very poor and could face enforcement action, up to 4 – which is very good.
There are 12 tattoo parlours registered with the local authority in Stafford and Stone. No official statistics have been collated on the number of people who require medical treatment because of problems related to tattoos – but council bosses hope this new scheme will ensure parlours are up to scratch and give people confidence about visiting them.
The Borough Council has sent letters to the parlours to alert them to the new scheme and will start inspections towards the end of next month (September) – with details of the premises and their scores published on the website before the end of the year. The web page will also offer advice and how to contact the Council if people are not happy about standards at a parlour.
