Age Concern Stone & District’s trained volunteer advisers deal with many elderly residents needing help as they struggle to travel to attend medical appointments at dentists, doctors, hospitals etc. It can take a number of bus journeys or a taxi ride to visit one of the three hospitals in the area or even further afield to Wolverhampton. Trips to hospital can be expensive and a daunting prospect causing worry and stress for a number of reasons. The need for reliable and affordable transport for the elderly who cannot drive anymore and want to maintain their independence has been identified by Age Concern Stone & District.
They are hoping to begin a community transport scheme for the elderly (you have to be 50+ to benefit) and are looking for volunteer drivers to get the scheme off to a good start. If you can spare a few hours a week and are willing to use your own car then please contact the Age Concern office for details on 01785 817906 or pop into the office and talk to one of the advisors. The office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings 10 am-12.30 and is located in the council offices ground floor at 15 Station Road, Stone. You can make a big difference to an elderly person, providing a service that is appreciated and valued. As a volunteer driver you can make sure that older people in your community get the support they need.
