Caudwell Children, the Staffordshire based national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, has announced that registration is now open for their annual, Yuletide, ‘Elf Run’.
The non-competitive 5km family event will take place on the Trentham Garden Estate, Stone Road, Trentham, ST4 8AX, on Sunday 13th December, at 11:00am, and the charity wants families to join them, in festive fancy dress, on the Christmas themed fun run.
Sam Irwin, Challenge Events Coordinator for Caudwell Children, says the ‘Elf Run’ is suitable for the whole family. She said:
“The ‘Elf Run’ has been designed to be family friendly and the route is fully accessible for buggies and wheelchairs. You can run, jog, skip or simply walk around the course, and the fact that we ask people to dress in Elf costumes, or other Christmas outfits, makes for a fantastic, fun-filled atmosphere.”
On completion of the course festive participants will be rewarded with Christmas crackers and fresh mince pies!
Sam says that the ‘Elf Run’ is perfectly suited for families with disabled children. As she explained:
“Research shows that 78% of disabled children have no access to activities outside their home, whilst 75% of families feel so isolated that it has caused anxiety and depression.
“Therefore, this fully inclusive fundraising event is ideal for disabled children. It will help them to get out of the house and reduce their isolation and will help to build confidence and self-esteem. It will also give parents the opportunity to develop friendships and form lasting social networks.”
Sam was delighted that last year’s event attracted families from across Staffordshire. She said: “It was a fantastic mix last year. We had members of the general public, from across the county and beyond, participating alongside beneficiaries of the charity. There was a lot of laughing, posing and picture taking and many people told me it really kick-started the festive season for them.
“Once again there will be prizes for the best fancy dress so I would urge people to be creative in their Christmas costume making.”
Entry to the event costs £12 per adult, which includes one free child’s place and entry into the Italian Gardens. Each additional child is £5. Participants also receive a 50% discount to the Trentham Garden Estate.
“It’s simply a great day out with the family and a fantastic way to keep fit, have fun and raise vital funds for Caudwell Children, which will allow us to support even more disabled children throughout the region.”
