Stone Stroke Club celebrated its 30th anniversary last September with a small party at its regular venue at Little Stoke Cricket Club. Run by a dedicated group of volunteers, the club enables stroke sufferers to meet up, enjoy social activities and take part in regular outings.
A typical Wednesday half-day session starts at 10.30 am with a coffee and a chat, followed by gentle exercises led by a yoga teacher, founder and organiser Stella Winsor explained.
“Then we have a quiz or play bingo till lunch, which is a hot main course with a home-made dessert. In the afternoon we play cards or other board games or do handicrafts until 2.30 pm.”
The Stroke Club has six outings a year with transport provided, Stella continued.
“A recent outing was to Oak Tree Farm for coffee then on to the Strawberry Farm at Bramshall for lunch.”
All this for a very reasonable weekly charge, with transport available for stroke sufferers who live in the Stone area. Places are limited to 16, but vacancies do arise from time to time. To find out more, phone Stella Winsor on 01785 603707.
