West Midland Regional League Division One North – 25/10/15
Stone Dominoes LFC 5 – Wyrley Ladies 1
Stone didn’t have the usual full squad available and were expecting a tough game from a team the dominoes beat in the first round of the FA cup. Stone started well, everyone putting lots of effort into winning the ball then keeping the ball.
Short sharp passes worked well between the defence and midfield. Strikers Nat Price and Hannah Perry worked tirelessly in closing the Wyrley defence down when in possession of the ball. Both teams were creating scoring opportunities and could have easily taken the lead, however it was central midfielder Jules Kendrick who scored the first for Stone.
Lauren Ward laid the ball off for Kendrick to fire from distance over the keepers head. Another goal soon followed after a dominoes corner, the ball fell to Nat Price whos shot got saved off the line, only to the feet of striker Hannah Perry who fired it into the back of the net. 2-0 to the dominoes. Wyrley right winger had the ball and was running at pace towards the dominoes goal, Central defender Mollie Prime made a mistimed challenge bringing the player down and receiving a yellow card. Wyrley looked dangerous on the free kick, however Charlotte Perry was organised with her defence and nothing troubled the team.
Stones third came from a ball through from midfield, Nat Price controlled the ball and casually lobbed the keeper making it 3-0. Stone were working well, keeping possesion and playing some quality football, however Wyrley were no push over, they had their fair share of chances to score. Dominoes keeper Charlotte Perry was called to action a couple of times and pulled off some excellent saves to keep the clean sheet. Half time 3-0.
The second half came and Stone were aware that Wyrley would come out stronger, looking for the early goal. Stone stayed strong and with central defender Beck Arnold and Winger Lydia Bennion coming on, Wyrley struggled as the dominoes had a change in going forward as Mollie Prime was moved from defence up to the left wing.
The game was end to end, Wyrley created some goal scoring chances but just failed to hit the target. Hannah Perrys second goal came from a winding run from Kendrick through the wyrley midfielders, laying the ball off for winger Mollie Prime who placed the ball onto Perrys foot for her to get her second of the game making the score 4-0.
Mollie Prime rounded the scoring up after some great play between herself and Hannah Perry. Prime slotted the ball past the keeper for Stones final goal of the game. Wyrley bagged a consolation goal with 15minutes left to play after a quality free kick on the edge of the box.
Player of the match – Hannah Perry for her hard work as striker netting 2 goals herself and creating chances for others on the team.
