The Stone youngster crossed the line less than a second ahead of 10-year-old Stafford Preparatory School pupil Jamie Owen, while Stafford Grammar’s Christian Roe, 11, finished a close third over the 2.4K course.
The trio were neck and neck coming into the home straight but as they approached the line Stafford Grammar athlete Brownsill nudged his Cannock and Stafford AC team mate into second place.
Meanwhile James Boote eased to victory for Alleynes Academy in the boys’ under-14 event, finishing the 3.6K course head of 12-year-old Danny Meredith, from Christ Church Academy. Alleynes Academy scooped another gold medal as the impressive Bill Chesters, 14, forged a five second gap in his 4.3K race to cruise to the under-16 title. Eccleshall athlete Lucy Chambers, 16, clinched second place for Stafford Grammar in the senior girls’ under-18 competition, while 17-year-old SGS sixth former Sally Tyler, from Moddershall, came third.
More than 250 runners from 10 schools converged on Stafford Grammar School to challenge for titles in a chase for a top 10 finish, to earn a chance to represent the district team in the county championships on January 23.
