Contracts have now been exchanged between Stafford Borough Council (SBC) and Liberty Properties, the developers of the proposed M&S Simply Food Store on Westbridge Park, for the sale of land currently occupied by the tennis courts.
This deal will provide part funding towards a new £4.5m leisure centre, featuring a six-lane swimming pool, on previously developed land in the park. Further funding will come directly from the council.
The park’s undeveloped green space will be offered to Stone Town Council or to a trust to protect it for the future.
Ian Thompson, SBC Chief Executive, said:
“We have exchanged contracts with Liberty Properties who are the developers for the proposed M&S Simply Food Store.
This will provide funding towards the leisure development in the park which will include a new leisure centre and play areas. We have been working on plans for the new leisure centre but required this contractual agreement to be in place before we could progress further. A planning application for the M&S is expected soon.”
