Staffordshire Ladies County Cup Quarter Final
Stone started confidently against lower leagued opponents Brereton Town, and soon found themselves dominating play. Three consecutive shots from Hannah Perry, Mollie Prime and Lydia Bennion kept the Brereton keeper on her toes and pulled off three quality saves in the first 5minutes of the game. Right back Simone Kelsall found herself in space on the edge of the Brereton box, with a decent lay off from winger Lydia Bennion, Kelsall was able to fire home an unstoppable shot making it 0-1 on the 8th minute.
Straight from the re-start a very nervous Brereton were closed down within seconds and Stone regained possession. After some passing in the middle, central midfielder Jules Kendrick was hacked down just outside the box after beating the defender, up stepped Lydia Bennion, who lifted the ball over the keepers head with a magnificent free kick. 0-2 to stone.
Stone were cruising from this point, controlling the game all over the pitch, Siobhan Haynes got her first of the season on the 23rd minute after some quick short passing between herself and left winger Tammi Bennett. Haynes casually slotted he ball passed the keeper making it 0-3 to the visitors and knocking Brereton’s confidence even more. Stone sat back and controlled the game, on a boggy pitch the usual passing game of the dominoes was much harder but possession was kept well. Half time 0-3.
Changes were made at half time with and both central midfielders were switched, Jules Kendrick and Siobhan Haynes made way for Lauren Ward and Natalie Price. Both making an impact possession was still dominated by Stone and striker Mollie Prime netted on the 49th minute with another one of her trademark finishes which takes her onto 14 goals this season.
More chances came but Brereton goalkeeper was on form and certainly prevented more goals on the scoresheet. Player of the match was Hannah Perry for her hard work as striker.
The girls march on into the Semi-finals of the cup where they will be drawn against Stoke City, Sporting Khalsa or Bradwell Belles.
