Refurbishments are underway to transform the ground floor of Swynnerton’s Fitzherbert Arms into a destination rural village pub and restaurant.
Owned by Lord Stafford, the ‘Fitz’ will be operated by Cheshire Cat Pubs and Bars, a small chain with a proven track record of restoring and successfully operating historic pubs as food destinations.
Stafford Borough Council have passed plans to insert plate glass doors and windows into the front and rear walls of the bar area, to provide an additional main road entrance and to create a new decked terrace with oak-framed pergola at the rear. However, the replacement of the brick bus shelter directly in front of the building with a metal and glass construction has still to be decided.
“We are thrilled by the architect’s drawings, said Lord Stafford, who is investing £500,000 in the project. “The plans are sympathetic to the village and the refurbishment will authentically reflect the building’s history.”
The opening date is set for February 2016.
