Hospice tree will switch on to light up lives

Katharine House Hospice decorated its Christmas tree for the annual Light up a Life service on Sunday 13th December, with its lights sponsored by Staffordshire-based marketing consultancy MMS which has supported the service since 2003.

The 25ft tree, generously donated by Streetscene, part of the Borough Council, forms the focal point of the annual appeal, which sees local people celebrating the life of someone special, as a light shines in their honour this Christmas.

Head of Fundraising, Sarah Hulson-Beech said:

“The switching on of the lights on our tree really signals the start of the festive period at Katharine House Hospice; every person who dedicates a light on the tree is helping local people, and their families, who rely on the services that we provide.

“Dedicated lights placed on our Christmas tree will shine in remembrance of people who are loved and missed at this special time of year.”

The funds raised from donations to the appeal will go towards the care of people with life-limiting illnesses at Katharine House Hospice. Supporters who dedicated a light were invited to a special Light up a Life Carol service around the tree on Sunday 13th December, at 5.00pm, when the lights were switched on.

Sarah said:

“Lights will shine for loved ones on the tree until twelfth night (Jan 5th), so there is still time to dedicate a light for a loved one – supporters can do so by visiting our website or by calling the fundraising team on 01785 270808”.

Glen Mitton, Managing Director of MMS said:

“We have supported Katharine House Hospice with this appeal for the past 12 years because we feel that Katharine House Hospice is a very worthy cause and it is always a pleasure to support the Light up a Life Appeal. We really hope that the hospice has a record year in terms of donations, as every penny raised makes a significant difference to the lives of local people cared for by the hospice”.

Katharine House Hospice provides free care and support for adults, and their families, across Mid-Staffordshire who have illnesses that can’t be cured. It relies upon the generosity of the local community to help generate 75% of funds needed to run its range of vital services.
