Gazette readers are being urged to stay safe in the cold weather by following some expert advice.

Stafford Borough Council and other agencies have joined forces to provide up-to-date information during periods of snow and ice.

The website includes weather and flooding alerts, school closures, advice on staying healthy and warm and information on bin collections, home safety and road safety.

Councillor Jeremy Pert, Cabinet Member for Community, said:

“Given it has taken some time for a cold snap to arrive this winter we advise all residents to make sure they are ready for the cold weather by stocking up on food and other essentials, making sure they can access adequate heating and ensuring pre-payment meters have enough credit in the event that leaving the house is difficult. We would ask that neighbours stay alert in their communities and look in on vulnerable neighbours.

“In the longer term we are urging residents who require insulation measures to contact us to ensure they can benefit from grants for loft and cavity wall insulation. A fully insulated property is better protected from the cold and will save money on your bills.”
