And do we have we some exciting news for you today! Previously we mentioned lots of projects that were in the mix for the 2016 Festival week and already we are in a position to start announcing events for Festival Week which s building up to be one of the largest and most fun filled ever.
Firstly we have some 27 different events happening across Stone over the Festival week. Festival 2016 will be a great mix of the tried, trusted and successful events coupled with some new additions that we hope you will enjoy and participate in with us.
There will be 3 different musical concerts in 2016 for which you can either buy single tickets or a discounted one that covers all 3.
First of the new events is our Jazz Festival Night which is being held slightly ahead of Festival week on the evening of Friday 20th May. We have a stunning quartet playing headed up by Peter Robinson who will be playing a wide selection of foot tapping Jazz over a 2 hour set and with numbers restricted in the building to 110, we would suggest that booking early to avoid disappointment. Tickets are priced at a very competitive £6.00 per head for the Jazz event.
The 2 other music events are Proms in the Hall on Sunday 5th June (the final location is being finalised) and a Party in the Brewery on Friday 10th June in Lymestone Brewery on Mount Road. We have already had confirmation of Denise Leigh headlining the Proms event as she did so magnificently in 2015 and CID for the Party event.
The Festival now has a large quantity of Juggling and Balance equipment – kindly funded by Staffordshire County Council as part of their Local Community Fund through Councillor Philip Jones. We will be using this on Carnival Day to provide Carnival goers with the chance to try out juggling, spinning plates, stilts, diablos and so on.
If you have any of these skills already and would like to help out on the day please get in touch.
Alternatively, if your group could benefit from using that equipment for your own event – and it’s not on Saturday 11th June ! – then contact us to arrange to borrow it – as long as it is of benefit to the community then we will help out wherever we can.
Next up are our Tennis Competition and Croquet Competition which will be held during the Festival Week and finally our proposal to host the first Stone Soapbox Competition down the High Street in a mini version of the great Red Bull Soapbox competitions that are now so popular around the great Cities of the World. This is just awaiting final clarification as to going ahead but the support and enthusiasm shown to date is leading us to believe that this could be a huge spectacle in the town and be something that the young and old can get involved in.
So if you can remember the heady days back in the 70’s of building your own Go Kart, or you are 3 ladies wanting to show the men how its done or even 3 budding car engineers wanting a project for school or pleasure, then this is an event designed for you 🙂 Watch this space and on our website for more information as it becomes available.
We want to encourage as many local businesses, groups and individuals as possible to be actively involved in the Festival. If you feel you can help or have ideas around what you want to see in the Festival then please contact Neil Gater to talk about it (firstname.lastname@example.org 07716 433531) or for more information please go to www.stonefestival.co.uk
