During the latter part of 2015 CAMRA chose their Branch Pub of the Year.
Members were contacted by e-mail to seek nominations; they were reminded that this process is very different to selection of pubs for the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. We are looking for pubs which offer much more than ‘good beer or cider’; the winner should be potentially capable of winning ‘National Pub of the Year’. The competition used the website www.heartofstaffordshirecamra.org.uk and was divided into two sections; Urban POTY (pubs in Stafford, Stone, Gnosall, Penkridge, and Eccleshall) and Rural POTY (pubs not in the ‘Urban’ Areas).
We are pleased to report that our ‘Urban POTY’ is The Swan Inn, Stone (presentation took place on 17th December). The ‘Rural POTY’ is The Green Man, Milwich (presentation was done 10th December). The runners up, respectively, were the Borehole, Stone, and Brushmakers, Oulton.
In order to select our overall winner, The Swan and The Green Man were surveyed by Committee Members using the criteria for ‘CAMRA National POTY’. The Winning pub, and Branch Pub of the Year is ‘The Green Man, Milwich’ congratulations to Rod Webb, and his team, for maintaining this pub of excellence!
