Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is now under new ownership. Simon Clarke, the new and enthusiastic owner, took over on 18 December and has many exciting plans for this beautiful tourist location.
He has already obtained planning permission for the construction of a new Engine Shed which will both visually improve the station at Rudyard and provide better conditions for the loyal group of volunteers.
The railway will run as under the previous owners but with many more Special Events planned for 2016 and Platform 2 Cafe will be refurbished to offer a wider choice of great value for money meals, snacks, drinks and ice creams.
A spokesperson for Leek & Rudyard Railway, the new operating company, said
“The management team which Simon has put into place is really excited and looking forward to 2016. Together with our fabulous volunteers we can help preserve this little bit of history but still make improvements to provide an even better visitor experience. We also hope to develop partnerships with local schools, groups and charities to make the railway a real hub of the local community.”
Three days of running are planned for 1-3 January as a Welcome to 2016 and what better location to blow away the cobwebs?
On the 3 mile return trip the trains run alongside Rudyard Lake which is breathtakingly beautiful whatever the season or why not ride one way and walk the other to kick-start your healthier New Year?
The trains will run from 1100 to 1500 hours and don’t be discouraged if the weather’s a bit “iffy” as all the carriages are covered.
