Two school netball teams clinched Midlands titles to earn a trip to High Wycombe to challenge the cream of England and Wales in the national finals this month.
Barlaston player Jessica Lakin (12) and Amy McGeowan (12), from Oulton Heath, joined Stafford Grammar School’s triumphant under-13 line-up which captured the Independent Schools’ Association (ISA) regional trophy in Worcestershire.
The side scored 43 goals and conceded only two as they romped to the top of their group at Malvern St James, before seeing off Worcestershire’s Dodderhill School 4-2 in the semi-final. The SGS outfit then defeated Loughborough-based Our Lady’s Convent 10-1 to capture the crown and book their place in Buckinghamshire.
Meanwhile the under-14s have secured another shot at the ISA national title which eluded them last year when they lined-up against the top 19 sides and finished fourth. They were crowned ISA Midlands champions for a second successive year after winning all eight games in the round-robin tournament in Malvern, netting 101 goals and letting in 25.
“Both our teams played tremendously well throughout the tournaments. I’m particularly pleased that although were able to score a lot, we also managed to keep it really tight in defence and conceded very few goals. We’re now looking forward to competing in the nationals and will no doubt come across some very tough sides,”
said SGS head of girls’ PE, Lynda McConville.
