1st Stone Scout Group, who meet at the Old Pumphouse, Westbridge Park, Stone, find themselves needing to raise vital funds for urgent internal and external repairs to their Scout building.
Eileen Lovatt, the District Commissioner and Acting Group Scout leader at 1st Stone Scouts says;
“These repairs are now urgent, especially repairs to the roof. Scouting is here for the young people and we want to continue to have a safe building to carry on providing a place for the young people to meet and experience challenges, opportunities and have some fun too, as well as being part of the larger family of scouting and their communities”.
The Group has set themselves a target of trying to raise at least £40,000-£45.000.00 for the internal and external repairs and improvements to the building. The Group’s Executive Committee has just set up a Building Project Fund and is hoping that anything they raise, or donations that are given, that they can try and get ‘match funded’.
Friends of the group have obviously been talking as the group has already been promised a £200 cheque from Stone’s Kibblestone Lodge Masons, which will be presented to the group shortly and the Group were humbled and overwhelmed recently to receive a cheque in the sum of £20,000.00 from the Executors of the Estate of the late Patricia Drury, who worked for the Probation Service and lived locally until her death. The Trustees felt that the scout group building project was a worthy cause to support.
This now means that the group are already over half way to reaching their target but are not complacent in realising that to raise the remainder will need the support and further donations from Stone Community, general fundraising or match-funding applications. Any individual, organisation, business or local companies who would like to get involved with fundraising activities or make a donation to the building project, however large or small, should contact Eileen on 07976 274175.
1st Stone Scouting is here to serve its communities’ young people and wants to continue doing this for many, many years to come in a safe and happy environment, but we cannot do it alone, at times we need to send out a plea for your help. 1st Stone Group will also be celebrating being a scout group for 105 years in March 2017, and this year also sees National Celebrations for the 30 year anniversary of the starting of Beaver Scout colonies and also the 100 years celebration of Cub Scouts; with many local and county activities planned for the young people to celebrate. The group are also hoping that more adult volunteers will come forward to support the programmes of the young people by becoming leaders or helpers, especially in the cub and scout sections.
Cubs meet on Monday and scouts on Thursday evenings. If you can give us just a couple of hours each week or month we really would appreciate it. Anyone from 18 to the over 60’s can offer to volunteer just contact Eileen.
