First butterfly sighting of the year in Eccleshall

Hello readers,

On a cold but bright Thursday 25th February 2016 I was talking to a neighbour in the garden when a Small Tortoiseshell flew over – the first sighting of the year.

I suspect that the butterfly must have been disturbed from hibernation somewhere since one would not expect to see one on the wing when the weather was as cold as it was that day.

Have any other readers spotted any yet?

Kind regards,

Thomas W. W. Knowles
