Barlaston Wassail Raising Funds For Riding For The Disabled

A cheque for £166 is presented to Erica Pinfold, Chairman of the North Staffordshire branch of Riding For The Disabled, at Poplars Riding Stables, Meir Heath, on February 29th.

It was raised at the Barlaston Wassail on New Year’s Eve. Here Milly Green, the 2016 Wassail Queen, sits on Cloudy, one of the horses used by the branch. The reigns are held by Debra Richardson, Treasurer of N. Staffs R.D.A.

We would especially like to thank Vanetta Jervis and Judith Bradbury for fund raising at the Duke of York. In addition to the £166, one of our players has kindly donated an further £50, making £216.
Being Leap Year and the Wassail having run for 12 years/ having become established, the organisers have decided to take a year off. We will be back in 2017.

This return will include our mumming play (which tells the story of the founding of Barlaston and Stone, hopefully putting it on in addition to the village, in Stone High Street leading up to New Year’s Eve 2017), a night walk (returning to the wild countryside round the village, forsaking the village itself), keeping up the tradition of a ‘fire’ finale outside the Duke of York and dancing round the village tree at midnight.

Thanks to all those who have supported the event since 2004, we hope to see you again in 2017.
