Stone visited midtable Bilbrook in the West Midlands Regional league on Sunday. The game was scrappy from the beginning, Stone trying to play their passing game across a very bobbly pitch was proving difficult. Bilbrook got players behind the ball well, and kept the dominoes at bay. Hannah Perry broke free but was tackled before getting a shot off on goal. Soon after a diagonal ball for Siobhan Haynes to run on to was made, however Haynes failing to hit the target. Rotating the substitutes Kendrick and Elliott came on for Ward and Woodings. Stone had spells of time where the quick passing was implemented but Bilbrook worked hard and made it difficult for the Dominoes. Half time 0-0.
Second half saw an improvement in Stone, with better fitness and quality on the ball they began to create more. Hannah Perry netting her first of the game after a quality ball in from right back Lisa Elliott, Elliott who had a solid game in defence won the ball and from distance whipped the ball into the box for Perry to smash into the back of the net. 0-1 to Stone.
More substitutions were made bringing on Nat Williams on the left wing and rotating the other players on the pitch too. Williams made an instant impact with her pace down the left wing. Stones central defender Hayley Mason came off with 15minutes to go, slotting Lauren Ward into the defence. Bilbrook woke up after going down 1-0 and their striker was in on goal to make it 1-1. Laura Baskerville showed quality in the middle with her quick feet. Stones very own Lionel Messi dribbled passed players with ease, one time getting fouled on the edge of the box. Nat Price stepped up for the free kick, but her effort was just over the bar. Baskerville continued her tricks and created another chance for Tammi Bennett to run on to however it didn’t trouble the Bilbrook keeper.
The last ten minutes of the game was end to end, both teams had chances, however central defender Mollie Prime showed her quality in attacking form when she ran with the ball straight through the midfield with pace into the left wing position. Prime providing an inch perfect cross to the feet of Hannah Perry who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to put Dominoes ahead.
The last few minutes Stone defended as Bilbrook looked for the equaliser, Stones defence staying solid and giving them the 3 points.
Player of the match was central defender Hayley Mason. Mason has been the most consistant player in the team this season, every game she has worked 100% and Stone certainly wouldn’t be sat in 2nd place without her and the defence working so well together.
