‘Gandeys… Your Circus Awakens’ is coming to Newcastle-under-Lyme this March for a super-charged all-human production by the country’s largest ‘Big Top’ entertainment organisation, Gandeys.

This year, the Circus will be held in Newcastle on the old Sainsbury’s site, Ryecroft, ST5 2AF from March 11 to March 20.

The performance will consist of 25 ‘intergalactic’ renowned acts coming from beyond the stars to entertain families in Staffordshire. Some of the acts you can look forward to are Equivokee, punctuating the thrills with their belly laughing routines, also the world’s smallest stuntman and real life Ewok from the original films, plus Trevor Jones, returning as Peanuts the Clown.

The Germanisto Troupe will also be in attendance displaying their tremendous strength in their Russian Bar, Spring Board and Hand to Hand acts. All the way from South America, the Torres Brothers will be performing a fast paced bolas act and Gordon Marquez with high-speed Juggling.

Cutting edge circus technology, show girls and a giant space wheel where Duo Sifolinis risk life and death in the star battle, will complete the show spectacular.

Traditional circus activities will also take place; drinks, food, popcorn, light up merchandise and face painting making Gandeys Circus the place to be for all the family this March.

Gandeys Circus is supporting the town’s very own The Philip Astley Project during March to celebrate the life of the Newcastle born man who was known as the father of modern circus after creating the first 42ft diameter “circus ring”, which is still the standard size used in circus around the world.

Gandey’s have chosen to locate themselves in Newcastle due to the advent of a project which celebarates circus, and the life of the man who made it what it is today. Philip Astley was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme on 8th January 1742, the son of a cabinet maker who went on to become a war hero, a pioneer and showman. He is written about in the works of Charles Dickens & Jane Austen leaving his legacy popular in art & literature worldwide.

The Philip Astley Project has been in the making for over 35 years and now is truly gaining a solid form with the Philip Astley committee. The committee are a gathering of individuals who collectively bring their experience within education, historic studies & conservation, the arts, entertainment & politics together. They all have the goal and purpose of gaining recognition for Philip Astley – a pioneer son of Newcastle under Lyme, giving recognition to him and reflecting his achievements in a series of events and projects not only designed to keep his amazing legacy alive, but also to enrich a town that they are all proud of – Newcastle under Lyme.
