An equine car boot sale is being held in Hixon next month in support of a local horse rider’s London Marathon attempt to raise funds for The Lullaby Trust.

The event will take place at the popular Stafford Riding Club show on Saturday, 2nd April 2016. Proceeds will go toward Lorna Hopkin’s efforts to raise £7,000 as she runs the 2016 London Marathon, alongside brother Gavin Aiken, in memory of her baby son Leo who sadly passed away from SIDS last year. Their chosen charity is The Lullaby Trust, which provides specialist support for bereaved families, promotes expert advice on safer baby sleep and raises awareness on Sudden Infant Death.

Lorna’s friend Elly Byrne is organising the event, and says:

“My sister and I were clearing out the tack room and realised just how much horsey equipment we had that, although in great condition, we were unlikely to need again. From rugs to bits, boots and other pieces of tack we’ve got quite a treasure trove that, while we won’t find use for, could prove really handy for someone else. I knew Lorna was raising funds and was keen to support her, so an equine charity car boot sale seemed the perfect solution.

“Whether people are looking to clear out their tack rooms or bag a horsey bargain this event will be well worth a visit – a small fee will be taken from both shoppers and stall holders which will go direct to the charity, and donations on the day from vendors who have a successful day’s selling will be most welcome. If this event proves a success we’ll look into hosting more in the future to support other charities and fundraising efforts.”

The event will take place from 10.30am – 2.30pm; sellers (to arrive between 9.30am & 10.30am) will pay £5 per car or £7 per trailer/horsebox and shoppers will pay 50p on entry.
