Jane Austen’s ‘Northanger Abbey is coming to Salt Village Hall – Friday 22nd April

Salt Village Hall committee have arranged another of their popular Live and Local shows to raise funds for the village hall.

Travelling theatre group Box Tail Soup will present Northanger Abbey a delightful comedy-drama by Antonia Christophers and Noel Byrne bringing Jane Austen’s first published novel to brilliant and dynamic life.

Jane Austen’s high-spirited spoof tells of Catherine Morland, a sheltered young woman and daughter of a country clergyman, living in Dorset and wrestling with the eternal dilemma of love verses security. The work of a great writer flexing her creative muscles, amid the fun, Northanger Abbey offers a subtle and well-observed portrait of a society dedicated to the all-important business of snagging the right husband and marrying well.

Armed with a trunk full of paper props and with seven large paper puppets, the classic story is enacted with beautiful inventiveness and immensely beguiling performances, and with such happy faithfulness that long forgotten lines shine afresh.

‘One of the best and truest treatments, bar none, in any dramatic medium.’ Libby Purves (BBC Radio 4 ‘Midweek’) / ‘Austen must be smiling down.’ ★★★★ Times

‘I was completely mesmerised by this enchanting production.’ Joanna Lumley

The show starts at 7.30pm on Friday 22nd April for one night only
