Phoebe is starting to get very excited about her Fairytale Wedding Dress Ball

Dear Stone & Eccleshall Gazette readers,

On Saturday 16th April 2016 we are holding Phoebe’s Fairytale Wedding Dress Ball and Auction at Keele Hall to raise funds for four charities who have helped my seven year old niece since her Leukaemia diagnosis. This spectacular event will mark the end of a gruelling two and half years of treatment for Phoebe. As part of our fundraising we invited local companies to sponsor a table at the ball and also to donate raffle or auction prizes. We have numerous action and raffle prizes and many sponsors to whom we are very grateful. We have a professional photographer on the night, fun casino tables, a DJ and photo booth too so plenty to entertain our 265 guests.

My sister, Karen Moon, Phoebe’s mum, has written her story below and it will hopefully explain why we want to support these wonderful charities and help other families when they are faced with such difficult times.

Phoebe Elizabeth Moon was born on the 24.10.08. So tiny but perfect weighing 4lb 12oz. We found out at her 8 week check, her eyes were poorly. After various tests and scans it was confirmed Phoebe had congenital toxoplasmosis causing her scarring behind both retinas and nystagmus. On the 2.6.11 Phoebe was registered blind. She manages amazingly well with the little vision she has.

Just after her 5th birthday she couldn’t shift a chest infection and appeared quite yellow. After various blood tests and eventually a bone marrow aspirate we were given the devastating news on the 13.11.13 that our little princess had ALL Leukaemia. Nothing can prepare you for hearing those words. We began our journey and fight against cancer. We have had ups and downs, tears and laughter. We have met some wonderful families that are now part of our oncology family. We have been given some amazing help and support off some fantastic charities that have brightened the darker days and brought Phoebe’s beautiful smile back. For this we are forever thankful that these charities exist and can help families like ours.

Phoebe finishes her treatment on the 28/04/16 after two and a half years of chemo. We wanted to give something back to the charities that have touched our hearts. Phoebe loves to dance and always talks about her wedding day! So a charity wedding dress ball is so appropriate and special for my princess!

We are fundraising for four fabulous charities:-

Molly Olly’s Wishes
Molly gained her angel wings far too early. Another beautiful child taken by cancer. Her legacy lives on through her mums tireless fundraising for this amazing charity. Giving children a gift of their choice, something to help them through their gruelling chemo. Phoebe could choose anything she wished for up to a value of £500, she wished for a puppy! Molly Olly’s Wishes made her dream come true! We have had our Cavapoo, Molly, for a year. She is part of our family and Phoebe loves her to bits.

The Donna Louise Hospice
Our local hospice is Phoebe’s favourite place to visit and play for the day. Me and Phoebe spend some quality time together, playing and crafting, singing and dancing. We love it there.

When You Wish Upon a Star
Another fabulous charity that grants wishes to seriously ill children. They also charter 4 planes every December to take poorly kids to Lapland for the day for a magical trip of a lifetime playing in the snow and meeting Santa! Phoebe and her sister, Kiki, had the most amazing day full of fun and laughter! They are also granting Phoebe’s end of treatment wish to visit Disney World in Florida to become a princess.

Calum’s Cabin.
Calum was 12 years old when he lost his battle with cancer. It was his wish to have a holiday home for cancer families to escape to, away from hospitals and every day worries that come when your child has cancer. His fabulous mum made this happen. There are two houses on the Isle of Bute. We were lucky enough to stay in Calum’s Cabin Cottage and had the most perfect and peaceful weeks holiday. Making memories that will last a lifetime.
On behalf of the Moon family, especially Phoebe, and of the charities, we thank all for any contribution you can provide in making this magical ball a triumph.

Warmest regards and many thanks
Joanna Brookes
