Local Performing Arts School, Rooftop Studios, has launched a series of new breakdance classes for boys.

Taking place every Wednesday evening at the purpose built studio Stone high-street, the classes are split into several age-specific groups from 3 years to 9+.

Manchester-based Sam McCrea, who has a successful career both as a solo artist and as a member of popular dance crew NGC under his belt, leads the classes. During his time with the crew, he was mentored by international dance artist, B-boy Justroc and has taken part in numerous Hip Hop and Street dance events across the UK. This, alongside his experience of performing with and learning from dance artists from around the globe and his passion for passing on his love and knowledge of dance makes him a sought-after teacher across the country.

Studio Director at Rooftop, Laura Keeling, says:
“Everyone here at Rooftop is very excited to be launching these new classes. We teach several other forms of dance in our studios, but B-boying – or breakdancing – is currently very popular with kids and teenagers all over the world, and we have had a fantastic initial response from parents registering their interest.
“Having a teacher as talented and enthusiastic as Sam is brilliant. Not only is he a fantastic dancer in his own right, but he’s great at sharing his skills and knowledge; bringing out the best in his students. Although spaces are filling up fast, there are still some left across the three age groups – and there is no charge for the first lesson so boys can try a class to see if they like it before committing.”

The breakdance classes will take place at Rooftop Studios Wednesday evenings in the following schedule: the ‘Teeny breakers’ class for ages 3 – 5 years old from 5.45pm – 6.15pm (£3/class); the ‘Beginners breakin’ class for ages 6 – 8 years from 6.15pm – 7pm (£4.50/class); and the final class for ages 9+ from 7pm – 8pm (£6/class).
