The Wedgwood Museum gave some of Staffordshire’s future entrepreneurs a platform from which to show off their impressive business skills recently, when it hosted the Mid & North Staffordshire Area Young Enterprise Awards 2015/2016.
Founded in 1962 by Sir Walter Salomon, Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading charity that empowers young people to harness their business and personal skills. The Wedgwood Museum has been supporting Young Enterprise for five years, hosting the North Staffordshire, Mid Staffordshire and Country Awards in its Darwin Suite. In addition Wedgwood manufactures bespoke awards in fine bone china and Jasper to present to the winners and some senior figures within the company also participate as judges.
This year’s winners included Bagged Up, who scooped the Mid Staffordshire Company of the Year Award, and Halcyon, who won the North Staffordshire Company of the Year Award. Other winners on the night were Element, Kreate, Safe365 and Little Sous, who impressed the judges in the Company Report, Presentation, Journey and Innovation categories.
Mike Cozens, Operations Manager at the Wedgwood Museum, said:
“We were delighted to host the Mid & North Staffordshire Area Young Enterprise celebration and awards, and were once again thrilled with the quality and content of the presentations. If anyone needs to be convinced of the powerful contribution that Young Enterprise makes to helping our children develop work and interpersonal skills appropriate to real life employment then there was evidence in abundance throughout the evening. The World of Wedgwood and the Wedgwood Museum feel privileged to play an active and supporting role in such an important process and are committed to continuing their engagement into the future. The high standard of facilities available here are entirely consistent with the high standards of school participation. We are now very much looking forward to the County Awards on May 4th, which myself and World of Wedgwood’s General Manager, Heather Broadhurst, will be helping to judge.”
