Since 2004, the Stone Charity Cricket Cup Competition has donated over £10,000 to 26 charities in North Staffordshire.

The draw for the 2016 matches took place at the AGM on March 16 and the first round matches will be: Cheadle versus Meir Heath; Caverswall versus Little Stoke; Moddershall versus Hem Heath; Stone SP versus Checkley.

The competition, which was started in 1937, is open to clubs within a 20 mile radius of Stone and is unique in that each side bats sixteen 8 ball overs and the last man stands. The competition starts in June and concludes with the final in July. The objective of the competition is to raise money to support deserving local causes.

This is done by clubs holding raffles at each cricket match and it is through their hard work and efforts that charities, nominated by the participating clubs, benefit. The latest recipients are the Donna Louise Trust and the Stone and District Stroke Club.

Each charity received a cheque for £300, presented to them by Lord Stafford, President of the competition, who also thanked the current sponsors, solicitors Knights 1759 of Newcastle-under-Lyme, for their support.
