Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) has successfully recruited 15 additional apprentices above its ambitious target of 50 in just 50 days.
The College launched an ambitious campaign during National Apprenticeship Week in March to recruit 50 new apprentices in 50 working days in a bid to increase awareness of apprenticeships among local businesses and young people across the borough.
Carl Riding, Head of Employer Engagement and Work-Based Learning, commented:
“We’re absolutely ecstatic that the campaign has generated so much interest in apprenticeships from the local area. When we launched the campaign we thought that our target of 50 in 50 days was ambitious so to have exceeded by an additional 15 is incredible. We are extremely grateful to all local employers who have helped support the campaign and improve employment prospects for young people across the borough.”
“The campaign has now ended but we are committed to apprenticeships and we want to ensure that local employers recognise the value that apprentices can bring to their business – almost nine out of every ten employers hoping to achieve business benefits tell us that apprenticeships deliver.”
Local SME Retherm recruited an apprentice with NULC during the campaign. Amanda Conway, Finance Director at Retherm, said:
“Our experience with NULC has been efficient and friendly. The candidates were pre-screened and those that were sent through to us were of high quality. I’m excited to see what skills and talents our new apprentice can bring to the business.”
Paul Farrelly MP supported the campaign. Paul said:
“I’m delighted that the campaign has increased awareness and given 65 local young people employment prospects. The driving force of the campaign was to encourage local businesses to find out more about apprenticeships and the real business benefits, in order to tackle the skills shortages in the area and the wider unemployment issues and it has been successful.”
