Following the success of last year`s event Stone Lions Cub are arranging another evening for all men aged 50 and over to receive a PSA test to indicate any signs of Prostate Cancer.

The Stone House Hotel are again kindly providing the ballroom free of charge for the event on TUESDAY 27th SEPTEMBER from 6-00pm to 8-00pm – or longer if necessary. The main sponsor for this year`s event is Regent Travel of the High Street, Stone, who have made a generous donation of £1,000 to help with the provision of `free` tests. Financial support has also been received from County Councillor Philip Jones`s Community Fund, Stone Town Council, Dave Fox Cars, Stone Tyre Repairs, Canal Cruising Co., Whitebridge Estates and Mountfords Ironmongers. It is anticipated that further donations will be received from other local businesses and a full acknowledgement will be given with a report of the evening to the Gazette.

The blood samples will be taken by staff from the two local GP Practices at Mansion House and Cumberland House with a Consultant Urologist in attendance to speak to the participants and he will also arrange the laboratory tests and write to each individual when the results are known. Last year of the 140 men who attended 11 were advised by the Consultant to contact their GP and arrange further tests. Although Stone Lions Club are advised of the numbers they have no details of the individuals results – that is purely between the Consultant and the men involved.

Although the tests are free there will be provision for any donations but that is purely on a voluntary basis.

All men in the 50 plus bracket are urged to attend as David Baxter-Smith is convinced, and will no doubt stress on the night, that early intervention is crucial in fighting this form of Cancer.
