To complete a year of splendid celebrations to mark the 10th Anniversary of Stone U3A, there has been a fabulous floral display over recent months in Stonefield Park. Utilising the colours of the U3A logo, an excellent flower bed has been on view to locals and visitors alike and has been much admired. The display also proved an attractive bonus when the judging of Stone in Bloom took place especially as a sizeable number of U3A bowlers were on the adjacent green demonstrating their skills as they do on a weekly basis.
July witnessed a highly successful exhibition staged in Eccleshall Library by the Photography Group. Many Ecclians enjoyed more than twenty images of exemplary quality and varied style which reflected the very creative standard inspired by leader, Bruce Evans.
A new art class is to start in September and will incorporate all aspects of drawing. The focus will be on perspective, tone, structure, form, light, and the materials that can be used. Props will be utilised for still life and models for clothed figure drawing and portraits. Times are yet to be arranged dependent on response but the venue will be the Community Fire Station which has a lovely room with plenty of light which lends itself to art. We are hoping to attain a Thursday slot during the day. Anyone interested should please contact Charlene Holmes on 01785 813033
This month will also see a Family History group commence led by Irene Garner who is a genealogist with 30 years of experience and has also been facilitator of the Family History Club at Staffordshire County Record Office for the past six years. Beginners to advanced students will be welcome and classes are to be held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 1.30 pm to 3.00 pm. The venue has still to be arranged but hopefully will be within walking distance of Stone town centre. One-to-one tuition can also be arranged if desired. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest.
