Councillors will gather at a special meeting to vote on awarding Olympic gold medallist Joe Clarke the Freedom of the Borough.
Leader of Stafford Borough Council, Patrick Farrington, has proposed the honour for the Stafford and Stone Canoe Club paddler as a ‘person of distinction’.
This will be voted on by members of the Council at the special meeting next Tuesday (20 September).
Joe claimed Team GB’s second gold of the Rio Olympics in the K1 men’s slalom on 10 August.
During recent home coming celebrations in Stone he was greeted by thousands of people.
Councillor Farrington said:
“Joe is fully deserving of the honour of Freedom of the Borough.
“Not only was the skill, courage and commitment he displayed in achieving Olympic gold an inspiration to so many, during the subsequent interviews across national and international media he has proved to be a great ambassador for our area.”
