Brereton Town 6 – Stone Dominoes Ladies 3
With a few players missing, two debuts for the first team were midfielder Holly Salt and up from the second team, keeper Rachel Humphries. Stone dominated much of the first half, being 1nil up after Lacey Smith picked up the ball on the left wing, cutting it back and with a tight angle finding the back of the net. Stone were holding possession and creating chances however nothing troubled the keeper. Stone’s Holly Salt showed her skill and with the ball on the right wing, crossed in a perfect cross for Smith to get her head on unfortunately whizzing past the near post.
Stone switched off, and soon found themselves drawing 1-1. However Stone again bounced back with lots of possession again, after a weak goal kick Jules Kendrick spotted the keeper off the line and went for a 30yard effort, with the distance and accuracy spot on, the keeper totally outstretched and managed to tip it out for a corner. Brereton found themselves in front after a long ball deflected straight to the strikers feet and with one touch she poked it past Stones Keeper.
Half time 2-1
After the break changes were made rotating the squad, Nat Price came on in the centre and Chloe Luty came on as a striker. Both teams were matched, with similar amounts of possession chances came for both teams. Brereton’s striker beat the offside trap and with her one on one with the keeper, Humphries came out and flew into a challenge winning the ball. However Brereton again found the back of the net after players not tracking back with their opponent. 3-1
The Dominoes looked dangerous on set pieces, Hayley Mason got her first league goal with a corner from Kerry McCourt floating in to find Masons head 3-2. Soon after more changes were made, Kendrick and Baskerville back on, and Maria Birkett making an appearance. Another corner, another goal for Mason. 3-3.
Stone were back on top of the game, pressuring for the winner, a change of formation gave stone a 4 up top set up, which for a short while worked, however Brereton got themselves back in the game and the Dominoes defence struggled to cope with the overload of players. For the 3rd game in a row a penalty was given against Stone after an apparent push off the ball. 4-3 to Brereton.
Stone battled til the end, with numerous chances however again it wasn’t to be with Brereton scoring another 2 in the last ten minutes. Final score 6-3. Player of the match was central defender Simone Kelsall, Simone played as a sweeper and worked extremely hard off the ball cutting out Brereton attacks on goal.
