Stone Dominoes Ladies 12 – Lichfield City 0

A totally different performance from the off form dominoes which gave them a massive win over lower league opponents. Lichfield travelled to Stone in the Staffordshire Women’s Challenge County Cup and soon found themselves under a lot of pressure. Stone began brightly, midfield playing the ball around and keeping possession causing gaps to appear in the Lichfield defence. Garner was on hand for her first goal after a ball through the midfield for left winger Mollie Prime to run on to crossing it for Garner who found herself in acres of space in front of goal 1-0.

Soon again, another similar play this time from the right hand side, right back Simone Kelsall providing a decent ball down the line for Laura Baskerville to run on to crossing it again for Garner to make it 2-0. Lichfield weren’t a bad side and did hold some possession at times however they struggled to get past the back four of Kelsall, Mason, Baldwin and Elliott. Garner struck again for her hattrick on around the 35th minute of the game this time managing to take on the defender and slotting home 3-0.

Mollie Prime who was having a quality game down the left wing skipped past her defender easily and took a shot just inside the box with a tight angle 4-0 to the dominoes. Half time 4-0

Second half saw right winger Kerry McCourt and centre half Amelia Shacklestone on the pitch, both having good games. Stone were awarded a corner, McCourt’s cross in was perfect and Shacklestone got her head on it however the keeper blocked the attempt, Jules Kendrick pinched in front of the keeper to make the score 5-0.

Another couple of corners came in and with Kerry McCourt’s crossing ability was on form and Shackestone was unlucky to not get her name on the scoresheet. Centre midfielder Tash Tezgel found her name on the score sheet after a long spell of possession across the pitch by Stone, Tezgel picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired it to the top right corner giving the keeper no chance. 6-0.

Right back Simone Kelsall was proving difficult for the left side of the Lichfield team, Kelsall linking with McCourt proved successful with the overlap, Kelsall soon found herself on the edge of the box and took her chance on a long range effort. Kelsall struck the ball perfectly and it flew over the keepers head to make the score 7-0.

Lichfield began to tire even more and the last 20 minutes was constant pressure on their defence. Vikki Garner got the last 5 of the game all coming from great team work all over the pitch. Prime working tirelessly on the wing, Kendrick, Tezgel and Baskerville in the centre creating space and slotting through perfectly timed through balls. Player of the match was Vikki Garner who had a quality game and scored a total of 8 goals.
