Bilbrook Ladies 0 – Stone Dominoes 5
Stones season began well however after a losing streak lasting over a month, they look to be somewhat out of the rut they have been in. Stone have struggled with goal keepers and they welcomed new signing Hannah Greenhough as their 4th signed keeper this season.
The Dominoes started brightly with plenty of possession, however with Bilbrook holding their line, Stones attackers found themselves offside time and time again. Stone’s defence were solid, and when attacking right back Simone Kelsall proved handy down the right wing. Kelsall skipping past the Bilbrook defenders put a couple of decent crosses in however slightly too near the Bilbrook keeper who was clearly their best player on the pitch.
After some quick passing with Maria Birkett and Laura Baskerville a through ball came to the feet of Vikki Garner, Garner shoulder to shoulder against the defender showed her strength and got her shot off into the bottom corner to give Stone a goal they had deserved.
More offside decisions were made which frustrated Stone as some were clearly onside. However Stone played the ball around and created chances for Laura Baskerville and Mollie Prime.
Half time 0-1
Second half saw right back Kelsall slot into centre half and the centre half Meg Baldwin slot into the centre midfield. Katie Jones came on at right back and made a big impression, winning most of the balls she went in for. Jones also made some great attacking runs. Another Stone attack gave Garner the ball to her feet, turning the player and being brought down in the penalty area, the referee had no choice but to give Stone a penalty. Garner calmly placed the ball to the right of the keeper making it 0-2.
Soon after, right back Jones took a long run out of defence cut in to Amy Thompson, Thompson fired against the crossbar only for Mollie Prime to sweep up and get her first of the game 0-3 to the dominoes.
Bilbrook tired, and Stone began to completely dominate. A couple of one on one balls came to the feet of Prime and Garner however both firing straight at the keeper. Bilbrook still battled to the end, their central midfielders with quick feet passed the ball around the midfield and defence, their striker found themselves in front of goal however central midfielder Jules Kendrick made a last ditch sliding challenge and won the ball making sure the clean sheet was kept giving the debutant Hannah Greenhough a clean sheet in goals.
Player of the match was Mollie Prime for her tireless runs up and down the pitch and her two goals. Well done Mollie
