Florence Ladies 1 – Stone Dominoes Ladies 5

A depleted Stone team made the short journey to Florence. Striker Vikki Garner played in goal, and other key players were missing from the squad. The Dominoes started shaky and were soon 1-0 down after gifting Florence a goal. Stone responded well showing great determination against a Florence side who always prove tricky to beat every time the teams meet. Debutant Jade Arbor showed her quality and linked up well with striker Mollie Prime, Prime found the back of the net after a quality ball in from Arbor.

Laura Baskerville provided the next ball through for Arbor who again found Prime to make the score 1-2 giving Stone the lead.

Half time 1-2

After the break Stone pressed for more goals, more possession came for the dominoes with left and right back Simone Kelsall and Katie Jones getting chance to push forward. Central midfielders Jules Kendrick, Nat Price and Meg Baldwin were kept busy in the centre with two strong Florence midfielders. Florence tired, and began needless fouls, all being missed by the referee, Stone continued to play the quality football. Jade Arbor getting her name on the scoresheet next after some great possession in the centre of the park 1-3. Florence weren’t giving up that easily, their long ball approach tested the central pairing in defence of Hayley Mason and Amelia Shacklestone, both covering each other well and with Garner sweeping as a goal keeper proved difficult for Florence to get on the ball in front of goal.

Chances came for Jules Kendrick who hit the post, Meg Baldwin who had a couple of shots blocked however it was Midfielder Maria Birkett who got Stones 4th. Maria played more of a central role compared to the right wing and she was quality in that position. The final goal was from Mollie Prime, getting her hatrick and sealing the win for Stone. The last 10 minutes Stone were cruising with all the possession and were unlucky not to take anymore goals from the game.
