Soapbox Extravaganza returns for 2017

soapbox-10

Remember back in June this year, the High Street was thronging with people from all across Staffordshire to watch our inaugural Soapbox Derby Race?  Well make sure that Bank Holiday Monday 29th May 2017 has a large circle around it on your calendar as this is the date for next years event.

Stone Festival Organiser Grahame Neagus says

“Following on from last years huge turn out, it was an obvious choice to ensure that the Soapbox Derby race comes back again as part of the Festival nut because of an upsurge in interested people wishing to compete, we have decided to bring it forward in the Festival and also have it starting earlier so the children don’t miss out on the fun by virtue of having it spanning from the afternoon through and into the evening o Bank Holiday Monday. Expectations are that we could see in excess of 50 home made Soapboxes participating in 2017 which is fantastic news”

The original concept adopted this year will form the platform for something even more thrilling and interesting for 2017 meaning that both competitors and spectators alike can be assured of some wonderfully colourful and exciting racing taking place regardless of age or gender.

“One idea that we are giving serious consideration to is to have, much in the same way as World Cup Slalom Skiiing do, is to have each team participate twice but with a different driver on each run. This will ensure that the winners of each category will be a truly team effort by having two drivers and mean that a bit of robust construction needs to to added to each Soapbox whist giving the viewing public a long lasting spectacle!”
