Stone Dominoes 4 – Brereton Town 2

Stone went into the game confident after a good win last week and soon looked close to scoring. Possession was kept well between the defence and midfield which created space for Laura Baskerville in the number 10 role to work her magic with the ball at her feet numerous times providing quality through balls from vikki Garner and Mollie Prime to run on to.

After another spell of possession in the midfield, Jules Kendrick slotted the ball through for Mollie Prime to run on to, casually placing the ball past the keeper into the back of the net. 1-0 to Stone. Soon after, another goal came after a real team effort. Right back Simone Kelsall raced down the right wing and crossed the ball in straight to the feet of striker Garner, Garner laid it off for Kerry McCourt to fire home giving the keeper no chance 2-0.

The Dominoes sat off the pace for a time after their second goal but then began to press again, a poor clearance from the Brereton defender gave Jules Kendrick chance to hit a long range effort, crashing off the crossbar and bouncing around the goal line and back out again. Chances came again for Kendrick and Laura Baskerville but both from close range flew over the crossbar.

Brereton were quite a tall team so set pieces they looked dangerous, a corner was awarded to Brereton and their captain headed home 2-1.

Half time 2-1

Second half saw the Dominoes confidence grow and the supportiveness off the ball was great. A Kerry McCourt corner came in and central defender Hayley Mason headed home with some power to make it 3-1. Stone Dominoes substitutes were made – Nat Price and Maria Birkett came on in midfield and slotted in well. Brereton were soon in the dominoes half, winning a corner and their captain again managed to head in to get her 2nd of the game. 3-2 to Stone.

Vikki Garner who last month scored 8 goals in one particular game played as a lone striker and showed her quality and unselfishness in front of goal by creating goal scoring chances one came for Mollie Primes 2nd goal of the game, playing the ball through, Prime beat the offside trap and took it round the keeper 4-2 to Stone.

Player of the match was left back Amelia Shacklestone, Amelia had a brilliant game at left back, pressing the right winger down and being creative with the ball once she had won it back.
