It’s 1066 at Manor Hill First School!

The fun started at Manor Hill First School when Year 4 arrived the beginning of the half term to discover that their classroom entrance had a portcullis and their classroom contained a gigantic castle!

They started of their learning journey by researching who was the best candidate for the post of King of England after the death of Edward the Confessor. There followed a heated debate at the Witan, before a King was crowned.

They soon discovered, when they researched the events that occurred in 1066 and created a timeline, that the peace wouldn’t last long!  There followed an amazing visit to the school by a Norman soldier, equipped with armour and weaponry.

The children got to re-enact the events surrounding the Battle of Hastings, as well as handling armour and weapons.  The fun hasn’t ended yet, as a trip to Stafford Castle is taking place soon, in preparation for their exciting challenge  to design and build a Norman castle!
