Oak Tree Farm Rural Project were presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2014, this is the equivalent of an MBE for a voluntary group. It was in recognition of the Hilderstone based charity’s work with people with learning disabilities.
The crystal award is now on display in a fabulous cabinet that has been created by local craftsman Max Cooper. Made from quarter sawn oak, the cabinet sets off the crystal in a forest of trees fashioned from oak, zebrano and sycamore marquetry pieces.
Max combines specialist restoration work with fine furniture making at his Yarnfield base. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions across the country and been featured in many publications and books.
Oak Tree Farm is delighted such an accomplished craftsman agreed to design and make the cabinet. It is a fitting way to display the Award which acknowledges the work and dedication of volunteers past and present who have helped so many people with learning disabilities since 1986.
