The winter is over, and spring has sprung so it can only mean one thing that the 2017 Festival is coming over the horizon.
The organisers have been working hard to keep the right mix of both the events that are always popular like the Dog Show, Steeplechase, Pig Race, The Raft Race and the Brewery Tour coupled this year with a number of new and interesting fun filled events to give our visitors even more variety than ever before. New events this year include the growth in Two Wheeled Tuesday with a cycle ride around Westbridge Park through a marked route that will be safe and fun for all the family plus lots of entertainment and displays of everything on two wheels regardless of it is powered by human or by an engine! This evening on Festival Tuesday is likely to be a great opportunity to mingle and have fun at the same time.
Or how about Football Golf? No you won’t get caught in the bunker and shots from the rough should be easy enough, but how accurate is your shot in being able to get your football in the hole by means of your right or left foot? No putters, No irons or woods allowed!
For those of you with a musical ear, then as per previous years, there is a little something to suit everyone in 2017, including things starting off with a great new group to Stone called Rockabilly who will be performing at the Limestone Brewery on Saturday 3rd June, to then be followed by an evening of Jazz on Friday 9th June at St Dominics School courtesy of Fret & Fiddle who performed so wonderfully for us just before Christmas and which went down a storm. We have one final show up our sleeves which we hope will appeal to the youth and talent of Stone and surrounding areas and we are calling it “Youth in the Hall” which is going to be a musical extravaganza for the evening of Saturday 10th June – we will publish more details as they are confirmed. Tickets for all 3 events will again be on sale at Home & Colour and Fairway Garage Lichfield Road Stone.
Carnival Day on Saturday 10th June is set to be a cracker. We have plenty of stalls now booked on Westbridge Park and many of the very popular events from last year like the Have a Go Archery and the Hovercraft rides over the back of the park are back once more plus a whole array of new events too. Its destined to be a great day and best of all, if you fancy taking part we still have places available for either walking floats or for the proper traditional floats which are always so wonderfully decorated. Either way, your participation in the Carnival and giving it a great burst of colour will be hugely appreciated not just by us the Organisers but by the many of hundreds of people who line the streets year after year. Music on Carnival day will be provided by Mel Christi who pleased the crowds back in Summer during the Queens celebrations.
